Let me take you back about ten years now, or is it eight, nine? I guess that it does not matter aside from that fact that it was a long time ago. It was Christmas and I got a call from my now very good friend Susan to decorate her new house at The Bay Club in Mattapoisett for Christmas. I had so wanted to get inside this amazing house. It's lines are classic New England, but at the same time conjuring up images of the grand shingle style "Cottages" that dot nearby Newport, Rhode Island. I had a ball decking out the elegant interiors and complimenting the classic English and floral inspired decor that she had worked on with her longtime friend and interior decorator. The house was ready for a gloss of Christmas.........so beautiful in the end, as it always is at Christmas. We have changed a few things over the years ( fresh garland got the ax, too messy, I totally agree). We do go in each year and put up a gorgeous fresh Christmas tree and deck the rest of the halls.
When the house was completed and the landscaping was being worked on. Susan went out and found these two amazing oversized finials for the garden in the shape of acorns. Oak trees dot the property and the rest of the club as well. It was then that the house was named, by me, Acorn Manor. We kid about it now, but there are people my friend Lauren included, that refer to this amazing home on the first hole of the club as such.
Susan has always been a huge supporter of mine, I love that she hangs the hand painted envelope that I made for her years ago over her desk within her office. I knew that when it was time to create a fall collection that it would be her and her Acorn Manor of a house that I would draw inspiration from. The acorn and oak leave motif is a no brainer. I chose to use a color way that is inspired by the William and Morris Wallpaper that is hung in the downstairs guest bath. Soft, taupes, tans and greens int he shade of olives and peas. Hmmmm, making me hungry for Thanksgiving dinner, which btw, I have eaten in this house. (I remember the wine and tequila, not the turkey)
She called me this morning to let me know how excited she was that she and her house were the muse for this collection. She was giddy at the fact that we can create customized stationery and note cards for her to use, with her very own custom motif. Thank you my dear friend for calling on me each year to haul in the Christmas tree and the beautiful plaid throw that dates our friendship. It will be impossible for me not to think of you as I present this line to the world. My best and love always, CMP
